A Hundred Times

Read Mark 10:1 through 11:33

The pastor’s family lived in the parsonage which was also the church. The sanctuary was the modified garage; the kitchen, basement, and one bedroom were classrooms.

The pastor’s wife suffered from the lack of privacy. She wondered if following God in ministry meant never having a home of her own. One day, some Bible verses caught her eye:

“No one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life” (Mark 10:29,30).

The pastor’s family continued in ministry, but the wife no longer minded living in her house-church. In time a church was built and the family moved into a home. But by then, it had ceased to matter. God had met the need of her heart. The home was simply a bonus.

Thought for Today: In obeying Christ, we may sometimes wonder if we must give up too much. But God takes care of His own.
