Keeping an Appointment
Read Luke 5:1 through 6:49
Do you spend money however you want without giving thought to your budget? Do you eat what you choose never taking time to exercise? Do you drive at any speed without considering the danger?
As we depend on salvation through grace rather than works, we must not miss the importance of rules, time and money management, and practicing good health. These disciplines apply to our spiritual lives as well. Scheduling time with God—through Scripture reading, praise, intercession, and many other spiritual disciplines—is pleasing to Him and transformational to us. It also follows the example of Christ:
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed (Luke 5:16).
Jesus avoided turning miracles into a business endeavor. As He healed the sick the crowds grew. In that moment of ministry, Jesus knew what to do. He withdrew. Getting away from the crowd He enjoyed time with His Father. And Jesus wants us to follow His example and spend time with Him.
Prayer Suggestion: Father, help me learn to budget my schedule wisely and pursue time with You.
