Riding with Christ

Read Luke 7:1 through 8:56

The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” (Luke 8:24).

The disciples did not whisper when they woke Jesus. Their voices sounded an alarm.

Christ had invited His followers to join Him on a boat ride. Surrounded by mountains, the Sea of Galilee would often be hit by sudden storms. The Mediterranean’s cool air coming over the mountains and the warm air over the lake did not provide a comfortable setting. The storm disrupted the disciples’ ride. A squall came. Water filled the boat.

Amid the twisting and turning, Jesus slept on a cushion. The movement, noise, and moisture didn’t wake Him. But the shout from the disciples did. They cried out to their Master, convinced they would drown.

Jesus woke, rebuked the wind, calmed the storm, and asked the disciples about their faith. In the rough currents and storms of today, Jesus can bring calmness in our circumstances and our hearts.

Thought for Today: If we truly trust Christ today, our ride on the boat of life will give us hope to endure.
