Climb a Tree
Read Luke 19:1 through 20:47
So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way (Luke 19:4).
Zacchaeus didn’t have many friends. His reputation was not good. In a society where tax collectors were allowed to pull a few tricks to obtain more money for themselves, people disliked wealthy men like Zacchaeus.
But with Jesus coming into town, Zacchaeus refused to let his reputation rob him of a chance to meet the Teacher. He had heard about Jesus. That wasn’t enough, though. He wanted to know Jesus for himself.
Zacchaeus also refused to let the crowd or his own lack of height stop him. He rushed ahead and climbed a tree. Jesus noticed the short man in a fig tree. Christ’s response surprised the crowds—He invited himself to the house of Zacchaeus.
The life of Zacchaeus was never the same. Salvation came his way. He changed his behavior and corrected his wrongs. Why? One reason: Jesus. The chance Zacchaeus took paid off. He met the Teacher and was totally changed.
Challenge for Today: Take a chance to climb a tree and see Jesus. He will just change you as well.
