Divine Love
Read 1 Corinthians 10:1 through 13:13
Have you noticed how consumers love a product until a better one is introduced? Have you known a sports fan who loves a team until it starts losing? Have you seen a marriage break apart because love was displaced by emotions of disappointment, frustration, and anger?
“I love you” can be a statement of emotion that ebbs and flows depending on circumstances. But to God, love is everything. God’s Word teaches:
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Although faith and hope are very important, true love comes from God and is unconditional. His love gives—as in the gift of the Christ child that we celebrate at Christmas. It is seen in the gift of Jesus Christ giving His life in payment for every person’s sin.
Christians have access to the selfless, reliable, committed love of God that never depends on the other person’s worthiness. We cannot produce that kind of love on our own, but it is available to us through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer Suggestion: As you think, speak, and act, ask God to motivate you with His divine love.
