Has anyone used any sbf Procomp aluminum heads? They are available dirt cheap, almost to good to be true.

MMFF built a low buck 5.0 in the Oct 09 issue with them. Made 400hp. They said the ported ones would be much better, for 400 to 500 dollars more. You have to switch to adjustable rockers and hardened pushrods, but they aren't too bad.

I have a buddy that tried them. They seemed to do pretty good for the money. I mean, any cylinder head out there with a bigger valve that your going to use on a mild 302 based motor is going to do good. Especially when compared to E7 heads (ported or unported, they suck no matter what). I would say go for it, they have a thicker deck than cast heads so if you decide to go power adder it will help against blowing head gaskets!

I am in the process of putting together and porting a pair of windsor sr cast iron heads but they are heavy. I may give the pro comps a shot. They probably will need some port clean up, the cheaper intakes that I have tried have poor runner casting and take a little work.

I have a personal freind that is running them on a 347 with a little nitrous and it has gone 10.82 in the 1/4 so far. They had no real issues with them so far. I would say they are not bad for the money though they are not on the level of some of the other name brands. They are leaps and bounds better than any stock ported ford head though.

my dad has them on a 331 in a full weight 88 hatch, runs 7.50 1/8th. they are extremely heavy though, about the same as stock heads. plenty of room for porting. but i would recommend getting them bare and putting them togethor with good parts.

Thanks for the input, I may stay with the windsor sr's. I already have them, they are heavy but they flow pretty good.

My4stangs, do you have any fox body parts forsale? I'm looking for a rear end housing if you have an extra. Also, do you have any pictures of your GT fox body?

The only housing I have is a 7.5. If you are looking for a 8.8 housing try a-auto in little rock, thats where I got mine for the 88 notch. As for my gt here it is.

Stick with the Windsor SR's. My brother is making 600 HP with a set of them on a 302 based motor. I've heard of several issues with the Procomps. they have some porosity issues in some of them. Just my .02

They are a decent head. The as cast ones deffinately need the bowls blended and cleaned up. They usually have a nasty lip right below the valve seat.

i just got a set of the aluminum procomps for a sbc build i am in the process of doing. got a chance to get them on the flow bench and they are actually a decent head. the casting on these heads look really really good. the only negative thing i have to say about the set i got is that i have to ream the guides in them because there is no clearance at all. out of the box, there was terbulent air at .200 lift on exhaust, but that was it. the intake side was good, air speed little high in area's, and couple slow spots. overall, the heads i recieved is well worth the money paid.

x2 are they the best otb head, no but if your going to go through and port them anyway what the heck. Just make sure you know what your doing or get someone who does.
