Well, it's not a Stang, but I was hoping you guys could give some input on the pros/cons of routing the exhaust to different places on my 4runner. Quite frankly I hate the look of the factory exhaust. I really have been considering a cat-back system, but I'm not looking to spend that much money since gains seem to be minimal. I've really thought about the flowmaster 50 series SUV, but I don't know about the sound (I kinda like quite). So, in the end I've decided to remove the resonator and re-route the exhaust. With the factory one, the fumes are really bad about coming in the rear window. My preference would be to cut the resonator off and buy a turn down tip, and have it turned down so it isn't visible (about even with the rear tires). However, I've not seen anyone do this on a 4runner and wanted to make sure there were no downsides. Second option is bending the pipe to make it exit right behind the rear passenger mudflap and use a chrome time. Any suggestions? Here's a pic of the rear, you can see the rusty tip and resonator at the rear.

Turn down isn't bad,but can trap the fumes under the 4runner,and being a full length interior, you will get some fumes inside, and that is what your trying to stay away from.Best bet is to have the tip bent to the side, like you stated,it will help a bit.You might not be able to rid of the fumes completly, but it will help.

Hmm, I see your point. The biggest reason for the turn down is to give a cleaner look to the rear. I'm not a fan on the chrome tips (it'd be the only chrome on the rig). I've found a tip that's black chrome, and as of right now I'm planning on cutting the resonator, turning to the side, and having the shop weld on the black chrome tip (should be functional and look pretty good).

The black chrome tip will look nice! Not to flashy, but still a nice added touch.
