Desires of Our Hearts
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Matthew 6:24
Something begins to change us when we let materialism grip our souls. We start to justify things we know aren’t right, things we know are going to hurt us, or hurt our families. “I’ve worked hard for this,” we might say. “I deserve it.”
But those are words Satan uses to deceive us. Satan tried to do the same thing to Jesus in Matthew 4:8-9.
“The devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’”
The Lord God in heaven knows the desires of our hearts. He knows what we need and He does not withhold our rewards from us. He has promised all good things will come to us.
If you truly deserve something, God will see it through to you. God wants you to have all you need to do His will. Matthew 6:8 tells us that our Father knows what we need before we even ask Him. Do not let the lust for worldly possessions rule your soul, but set your mind on the things of the Spirit.
