Well ladies and gentleman as promised I'd be bringing you a blow by blow of my cars build in progress and here it is.
Phase 1 of this build will include
*New transmission
* All new maximum motorsports streetbox suspension kit /w rear control arms
* Correct MAF, MSD6AL box, Blaster coil, Fuel rails and regulator
* Misc. wire maintenance under the hood, replacing a few seals
Then I will be ordering a new front end for the car and sending it off to get re sprayed gloss black.
Then who knows from there :-p
Check back in later on for pictures, I'm trying to document this entire process to the best of my ability. But between slangin' parts on this car and drinking beer sometimes one becomes complacent in picking up the camera and taking a few stills for his fellow mustang brethren

All of these pics that i took are all of only one side of the car. The other side is just as far along in progress. The rear end is basically chillin' and waiting for me to finish installing this panhard bar tonight or tomorrow.. Depends when I feel like workin on it.

Perfect. lol I really don't have anyone picked out, I don't want it to be a "show car" finish.. I still wan't it to look sexy, but I don't want to fear driving it like it should be driven.

Its gonna be a couple of months before I can really do anyting as far as that goes. I just ordered my transmission today and by the way Randys Transmission in Jacksonville is the MAN! I would highly reccomend this guy to anyone who needs tranny work done that can't do it themselves. he is honest.. strait shooting.. and down right blunt fella' we talked on the phone today for at least a half hour/ 45 minutes about trannies, options, he helped clear up so much for me, and is affordable, gets his transmissions from a great source that dyno tests them. But i need to get it, then I have countless amounts of weather stripping, a bumper, a hood, windshield.. all that fun stuff before it can be painted :-(

You need to check out blue oval industries for the weather striping. I just bought a kit for my 90gt for $125. When I get it put in I'll let you know how it fits.

Transmission
One of the worst things about my car was the transmission. The previous owner (one before last) bought a 93 cobra z spec tranny for it off of e-bay after the second gear synchros decided to go the way of the doh doh in the one that was in it.. Well thats all fine, well and dandy except for him running it 2 quarts low on fluid the first day it was in the car. So everything in the tranny was wrecked. I took it to randys transmission in jacksonville and he ran the numbers on it.. Found out that it wasn't no t-5Z .. Just a regular old T-5.. hahaha So randy told me everthing was shot and gave me a few options. I opted to actually GO for a world class "t-5z" with the slightly different ratios, hardened gears, this, that and the third. It will be here in a week or so.
http://i43.tinypic.com/hsm1kh.jpg

Rear axle
The inspection cover leaks, and so does my drivers side axle seal, RTV, axle bearings and seals are all sitting in the garage waiting to go in. Along with new brakes too. Im sticking with the drums till I can afford to do a proper 5 lug + disc coversion

Panhard bar
Well being the fact that up until a few weeks ago I had never even heard of a panhard bar, and was clueless as to what it did, I had some issues installing it, just because as careful as I sometimes am I second guess myself on alot of things, if something isn't fitting correctly I like to see if I'm not being an idiot first and re check EVERYTHING..
http://i41.tinypic.com/10e4p4g.jpg
So I finally got the frame bar mounted, now I just have to drive the car around a little bit and get the suspension to settle before I can actually attatch the BAR its self to the axle. Which I have to wait until I get my transmission back to do, and I'm going to need to have the weight of the car on its wheels to properly adjust the bar. I also at that time am going to need to re torque my new upper rear control arms that use a rubber bushng, It will effect the way the car rides if they are pre loaded.

http://i43.tinypic.com/xkni88.jpg
So i got the rear suspension pretty much back together, the axle damper bushings are SHOT, so i need to order new dampers. Nobody in their right mind has ever even heard of them before so I'm going to have to order them

http://i40.tinypic.com/9fxpuf.jpg

Sub frame connectrs
I am mocing up where the connectors need to go, you use longer supplied bolts you run through your driver and passenger seat brackets and thats where they bolt to.. You then weld them at the back and front of the car, I'm going to need to bend them slightly (as expected) to make them work and contact my frame correctly.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2earuvs.jpg
http://i39.tinypic.com/2rxgvuh.jpg

Engine
Possibly the biggest atrosity known to man is the engine under the hood of my car. Its butt ugly, filthy, oily, wires EVERYWHERE. You could tell that some jaggoff really screwed things up when they put the engine in it with the harnesses, So for this round it is my decision to replace leaky valve cover seals, re loom some of the harnesses, provide better strain relief, put my larger fuel injector rails and adjstable fuel pressure regulator, throw in a blaster coil and a 6al box, and do away with my factory MAF that is choking the 70mm throttle body, and 24lb injectors.. Upon staring at everything under the hood of this car I got angrier then hell and now I'm pretty sure i'm going to tuck a bunch of these wires to try to clean it up some in there.. It looks like hell.. I plan on re locating my battery, using an actual radiator over flow tank instead of a painted black gatoraid bottle that just sorta.. chills in there an fixing so much of the idiotic things that I'm finding wrong..

http://i39.tinypic.com/161niqd.jpg

One step at a time.. This project is going to be done right.. little by little and I may have to change some of my plans in order to do it up correctly

http://i39.tinypic.com/p6st4.jpg

But thank you all for checking out my build.. Its going to be done in stages obviously I dont have the time or money to do it all overight.. You all understand, because if we did have an expendable income to blow on our cars.. We probably wouldn't be drivin' mustangs now would we?

Oh, and on a side note today I attempted every trick known to man to replace my front control arm bushings, to no avail, And I also attempted to sand blast my valve covers to re paint them because I wanna murder everything under the hood out AND THE SAND BLASTER WAS BEING A PIECE OF CRAP TOO! Looks like I'm goin on late model resto and spendin some chedda' tonight.

Dude, your moving along nicely!!Sucks about the "truth" abotu the T-5!!

weezil
03-12-2010, 02:42 AM
aahh, yeah. and its funny because my room mate drove the car right after the dude put the new trans in it like two years ago.. and it had all of 18 miles on it when it started making noise.. Like i said i'm suprised it clung together this long and didn't blow, bind, and send me spinning and sliding into a stationary object.. i.e a bridge abutment.. a tri axle.. or an oak tree :-p But its all good, i'm getting a new awesome unit for the car and I'm stoaked to see it all come together!

03-13-2010, 01:52 AM
a friend asked me "so what are you going to do with it when you are done?" I simply replied.. Drive it as fast as i can. looll and dude your car is absolutely gorgeous.. When I do my 5 lug conversion I'm going to go with black fr500 wheels on mine too. I think it will look killer on a fox. So anyway I have plans on burning out my front suspension bushings with a torch.. and I ordered my 76mm BBK MAF calibrated for 24lb injectors, and a CAI, BBK adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and high flow fuel rails OH.. Also a pro 5.0 shifter so I can actually hit 3rd :-p

i gotta stop down at the shop sat and get this tatt finished.. But yeah dude I'm totally down for whatever.. The engine is a keithcraft 306 low compression forged shortblock, factory heads + cam, Professional performance products intake manifold, 24lb injectors, bbk fuel flow rails+ 70mm t body, spacer, bbk intake and MAF.. Its getting MSD'd too when I get it all back together.. I'm going to start saving up to do the trickflow HCI swap on it eventually too.

Just an update: Found that the motor moutns i got from autozone were wrong, Installed my new pilot beariing and rear main seal, found that my flywheel was jaaacked up so I got it re surfaced and will have my new clutch on tuesday, When I was tearing apart the rear end to put new axle bearings and seals in the cross shaft you have to remove to get the c clips off of the axles was pretty much welded to the spider gears.. So after an hour and not using any air tools I had the rear end sitting on the ground. I took it to a guy i know in vilonia who is AWESOME with rear ends and it looks like i'm throwing in a new traction lok housing + pinion bearing and seals.. The rear axle dampners that I got from rock auto were wrong so they have to go back! I also ordered new front control arms and will hopefully have the front end together this weekend! Wooohoo! I'll update with pics soon

Well its been a minute, but i had a pretty productive weekend for as much as i worked on the car.. lets see here..
clutch, transmission, motormounts, oil pan gasket, urathane rack and pinion bushings drive shaft and k member brace are all in once again here are some photos

http://i42.tinypic.com/14v1gdu.jpg
the K member brace is going to add awesome stability to the front end. how its bolted on and how it tri angulates the k member i think its going to be highly effective

my old motor mounts were completely shot. the rubber inside of them was completely dis connected and just sorta chillin'

never realized how much air my old MAF was restricting

Oh yeah, forgot to mention all this crap i did to the car a few weekends ago too.. lol

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement fellas. And thats exactly what i'm thinking too.. This car had been half @$$ed from the very moment people started to modify it, they skipped the important stuff and messed up the small miniscule stuff. So I'm un screwing all kinds of stupdity, spending money on a lot of dumb little things that most people never even think about. But you know what, its taught me a lot about the car, my patience, and skill. It only motivates me to do more to the car once i get to finding out what I already can do and I assure you all its going to fit its title of being a "Disgustang' when i'm done with it.. I'll probably be rollin half primer for a few months before I get it painted.. But it wont stop me from cruisin' with you guys!
