Advocate in Heaven
But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:1-2
One of the hard things about reading the Ten Commandments is that they put a spotlight on the places in our lives where sin still lives—even when we thought we were doing “pretty well.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” We should never forget that our salvation does not hinge on our ability to “do well.” Our salvation hinges on faith in Jesus Christ. Praise God we don’t have to do it on our own!
“Whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin” (Romans 3:19-20).
Read the Ten Commandments to become conscious of the areas in your life that need improvement, and never lose sight of the fact that we are called to faith and love through Jesus Christ.
