Last Sunday my car just died while driving home from the Auto-cross race, I found out why today. The gear on the idler cam shaft that turns the distributor and oil pump sheared off a couple teeth, the distributor also has a few sheared teeth on the gear. So my guess is after the teeth sheared it skipped a couple teeth throwing the timing all off.

**Update**

Well I finally tore in to the car today and I'm glad I did. I found a lot of metal from the gears in the oil pan. Thank you Mr. Flemming (on SVOCA.com) for telling me to look at the oil pump, I found 3 large chunks sitting on top of the pump and 2 chunks in the pickup. I took the pump apart and did not find any other pieces. I will say it is a PITA to remove an oil pan with the engine still in the car, not only did I have to raise the engine but I also hand to lower the K-Member about 1.5" in order to remove the pan.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get it all back together.

This is what I found in the oil pan

This is what I found on the oil pump and oil pick up (for reference the big pieces are 1/2" long)

OUCH! Hopefully it stopped running before it lost oil pressure. Good luck.

It never lost oil pressure, once the distributor skipped teeth the car just turned off...................which was a good thing.

My fancy parts came in today. Btw I love when a company mails your parts ground when you paid for 3 day priority, then packs your parts in newspaper. It is good to know that the L.A. Times kept my parts safe...............

Well I made some progress yesterday. I got the serpentine set-up installed along with a remote reservoir for my power steering pump, I also replaced the stock P/S cooler with an actual radiator style one. (hopefully my power steering cap with not pop off the car any more)

I also installed the timing belt and all the other crap that goes with that. My fancy bronze distributor gear and new billet aux shaft is is place as well. Hopefully my (exploding dizzy gear problems are a thing of the past)

Here is some eye candy for your viewing pleasure.

I got it started today, I just need to re-stab the distributor (I think is it one gear tooth off) Hopefully it will be ready for a road test by Saturday.
