I ditched the 5.4 and I am building a 434 windsor now, all the parts are at machine shop. its a dart knock off rpm maxx 4 bolt mail 9.5" deck windsor, trickflow flat top pistons, ported trick flow R heads, engine should be around 12.1 compression, still havent heard back from mchine shop to find out the specs of the cam, but it will be a BIG solid roller. also bought a PA C4 trans to go behind it.

You sure it's a PA? Last I heard you hadn't even seen it! Can't wait to see the car running, or to help wrench on it if possible.

It's great to hear back from you, it's been a while. It's good to see you're still around and building the Stang, look forward to seeing some more progress.

I'm curious how you pay for an engine build.
I've got in mind to have a mild, 460 stroker in my 95. Problem is that I don't feel comfortable w/ building my own engine.
I might be able to bolt a set of heads and an intake onto a short block, but that's as much as I'd trust myself to do!

Here's the question: do you pay a percentage up front and then more along the way with a final payment at the end?
OR is it 100% of the known parts + a base time figure, then you pay for any additional time/parts at the conclusion of the build?

I need like a layaway plan for my big block idea!

I am sure all shops are different, but where I had mine done, seems like you have to pay a percentage of parts they have to order, cant remember I paid in full on parts and most of the labor up front. i do knw that parts is all you have to pay anything on up and you can pay labor on pick up.

I cant speak for all shops but usually your down payment covers costs of all parts up front. That way its no direct money out of the shops pocket and if the customer backs out of the build then they subtract the restocking fees from your refund. The sum is usually do when you pick it up.
