First off, other than the fact that the manufacturers of oils don't want you mixing their oils with a competitors oil, are there any negative effects?

Secondly, if so... I need help finding a certain brand of oil... Before I moved to Arkansas I had an oil change done on my Mustang using Hydrotex Synthetic oil... it's a 15,000 mile oil and I need a few quarts to keep my car topped-off and cannot find it anywhere.. does anybody know who might carry Hyrdotex oil around these parts? I'm actually going back to Texas Saturday but won't be in my car and my guy who owns the lube shop down there buys the oil in bulk so he can't just sell me a quart or two at a time..

Interesting situation your in. Switching brands shouldn't be a problem but synthetics are pricey so I can imagine you don't want to switch just because you need to top off. I've personally never heard of that brand but if it is purchased in bulk I would think it is just a "run of the mill" synthetic and you might get away with mixing for a few thousand until you can change again. OR, since your going to TX, find an empty oil container, clean it up a bit and go see if your guy can fill it and charge you a few bucks that way.?? If he can pump out 5 qts. he can pump out 2 qts. right???
