I decided to change my valve seals since i was burning so much oil. I knew it wasn't my rings because i did a compression check. after the install i started the car up and heard backfiring while the car was idled. so obviously i didn't adjust the rocker arms good enough.

after the second adjustment I was getting the same thing, so I readjusted them again. got the same thing. after the THIRD adjustment the car will not even stay idled. it will start but dies within 2 seconds. i checked my injectors and all of them were plugged in. checked all my plug wires and everything was fine. checked my throttle cable and it was ok. my TPS sensor is hooked up. my MAF is hooked up.

it never did this til i decided to change the seals out. is there any way i can find out if i did the seals wrong?? i don't see how it would be wrong. I dont know what to do im pulling my hair out over this. any suggestions?

Sounds like a timing issue. Check that your distributor went in correctly. It might be a tooth or two out.

That's what I was thinking.

He shouldn't have to pull the distributor to do valve stem seals. You've either got a vacuum leak, wires on the wrong plugs or the MAF may have to go through a relearn procedure.

i did not do anything with the distributor. all i did was unplug the wires witch i triple checked. i checked my vacuum lines on the back of the intake and all is plug up.

im thinking my MAF went on the frits. I have a C&L MAF would i have to call the company to get one specifically for that?

No offense, but you really need to throw that C&L in the trash, that's about all they are good for. Buy a Pro-M or SCT MAF.

Did you use a new upper plenum gasket?

got it running. the upper plenum was leaking. so i through a new gasket on and it started right up. thanks for the help everyone!

oh and jake yes i know the Pro M is on my agenda as well as a Systemax. Just depends on if I stay fuel injected. If I get a truck as a DD soon im converting it to carb and try and achieve a 350rwhp goal.

the car still smokes bad though. sure it can't be the rings since i installed new ones when the motor was put together.

How much oil is it using? Does it smoke all of the time?

i know i got to put a quart of oil in it every week if i drive it everyday ( wh ich i always do since its a DD ) and i drive about 150 miles a week. sometimes

it smokes constantly. i think its bad intake gasket. i saw oil in the manifold upper and lower
