Instruction Empowers
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.
Proverbs 4:13
Not long ago, I asked a young man to stand at the edge of the platform at World Harvest Church and assist me in illustrating the truth of instruction. With his back to the congregation, I explained he would fall backwards without catching himself at all—and he wouldn’t be hurt.
He started to sway and I yelled, “Not now!” Oftentimes, we get ourselves in trouble like this—because we have yet to receive all the information God has for us before we step out in faith.
I called for six men to stand, their arms interlocked, behind this young man. I looked the young man straight in the eyes and told him, “When you fall, these men are going to catch you. They will keep you from hurting yourself.”
What I provided the young man with was instruction…instruction produced understanding…understanding gave the man trust…which led to a leap of faith. When the time was right, he fell safely in their arms. “For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life” (Proverbs 6:23). Listen for God’s instructions and take a leap of faith when He says “Go!”
