Almost since I've owned my Mustang, on a cold morning (50 or lower) my car would always make a slight tapping noise before it warms up. Within the last month it has begun to do it any time I cold start the car. I can't tell if this is a bearing knock or a top-end issue like a noisy lifter.. i got a good recording of the sound.. i'd like it if someone more savvy could listen and give me some ideas..
after about 2 minutes of idle the noise goes completely away.. car runs fine, pulls hard, etc etc.. and I have stock internals..
You may have to turn up your volume a little..

You need to try to isolate where the noise is coming from in the engine. front, bottom, top, right or left valve cover. A rod, wrist pin or bearing noise would not go away. If it is coming from the front it could be a timing chain tensioner could be bleeding off.

Its really hard to tell listening to it on a computer but it kinda sounds like maybe a timing chain tensioner issue. My4tangs is right, you need to figure out where its coming from. On your next oil change it wouldnt hurt to cut your oil filter open and pull the webbing out to see if anything is in there.
