Alright I'm wanting to put nitrous on my Mach 1, my current mods are k&n CAI, bassani mid length headers, bassani ORX, and bassani catback. I know I'm wanting to run a wet kit on the car. What is a safe shot for a mostly daily driven car. And who installs/tunes and does a really good job at doing it?

A 100-125 shot will be safe with a wet system. As long as you are able to adjust your timing and have the correct plugs installed you'll be fine. Biggest thing to remember with nitrous is it's meant for drag racing despite what movies show. Typically it should only be used for short periods of time and when the car is nice and cool. Nitrous burns hotter therefore raising the overall temp of the motor. If your car is already sitting at 195 degrees, it might not be the best idea to spray it. I'm sure mike at QMM can help out with the install and judging by the look of his personal cars he will make the install super clean.

I have a mach and 100 is the most you want to go with a tune. I would just get a handheld from dynospeed, you can tell them your mods and how much you are spraying and they will give you a safe tune. Zex kits are simple and will provide more n2o then a stock 4v can take so I would look at zex wet kits. In fact jake is selling one right now with everything you need to have a good kit. Also remember unlike most zex rates their gains at the flywheel so a 100 shot is actually about an 80 shot, so if you want a true 100 shot out of a zex use the 125 pills. If you want an install hollar at Mike or some of the other board members I know of a few that have installed them before.

Ok thanks guys, I'm not really planning to spray the car a lot just when I need to or at the track. Davis how often do you/ have you sprayed your car and how long has the nitrous been on the car? Have you had any problems with it?

I have had it on for about a month but I just go the tune on last week and i have sprayed it a few times. Although the car had another kit on it before I bought it and it had about 5 bottles through it without any problems. I would say get someone to help you install it so you become familiar with it because these kits can be temperamental sometimes.

Also remember never spray the car under 3500 rpm or above 6600ish and never spray it in 5th or you will pop the motor.

im wanting to run a throttle switch and window switch, can you program that to only start at 3500 and end at 6300?

Well that's the glory of the zex kit. It has a built in tps switch that monitors the voltage of the tps and activates at WOT that way you don't have to fool around with a micro switch. Zex sells a really nice traction control/window switch unit that is easy to set up but most just run an msd window switch which is just as easy to set up. But yes that is exactly what a window switch will do. Although I would set the cut off higher than 6200 a good shift point is right at 6500 or a little above the motors will rev a hair over 7k safely so a cut off on the window switch at 6600 or 6700 would be fine.

Hey 91fox331 just so you know if you become a club member we can give you a discount on the ZEX kits. It is roughly 20% off. Also while it is true we do rate the ZEX kit at Flywheel HP our kits typically make more than the rating at the Flywheel though not that full number at the wheels. The window switch will do exactly what you want on turning the kit on at latter RPM. We have seen multiple customers run 125hp shots over long periods of time on 4v engines with 0 problems. The MSD switch will work if you prefer it over ours but do not hook it up the way MSD tells you to. They will tell you to break ground and that is not ok with a ZEX kit. I can get you a wiring diagram if/when you need it. Also you can spray below 3500 if you want to. Just don't spray below about 2500rpm. You will want to run a little colder plug and turn the timing down a bit. I would use a SCT or Diablo tuner for that but other brands will work well also. Just so I don't only plug our kit to you the Nitrous Xpress kit is also very good and I have run both kits over the years. I wil say the fittings and brackets that come with the ZEX kit are nicer but both will make the power just as well. I would recommend either a Nitrous Xpress bottle warmer or our Pressure activated bottle warmer. Of cours you need a pressure gauge and I would recommend a purge kit as well. If you have any further questions fell free to let me know or you can call me at work as well. 901-795-2400 ext. 753. I will be out of the office until monday though.

You work for comp? Also why would you ever need to spray below 3500?

Only time I could dee spraying below 3500 is if you have an automatic with a stock converter. Or if your one of those guys that can master the art of street tires with a 5sp and can leave the line at just above idle

I am the previous owner of Davis's M1. I installed my Zex kit and never had one single issue from it. Always worked the first time. But I also heat shrinked and solderded every conection. The spray was on for about 2 years. Never had any probs with spraying an 100 shot. Just make sure you change plugs to the NGK TR6 gapped at .32, Change your fuel filter every 6 months and never spray below 2500. The car made 286/310 on motor and 363/460 with the 100st. There was also plenty of interstate pulls in the dead of summer. Aslong as you do proper maintance and have a good tune. Spraying your car when its hot is no issues! I would recommend a good dyno tune. But a Email tune will work also. I used Joe at Dynospeed for mine.

Thanks a lot everyone, it will probably be about a month before I can get around to ordering the kit unless I can sell a few things. As far as a Dyno tune goes does bolt on performance do good with nitrous tunes?

He has tuned a few local cars and they seem to be doing well. Ill stick with DS for my cobra though

Do you think it would be less hassle/cheaper just to get a hand held and a custom tune?

Yes sir I work for Comp. I am tech consultant for them. (I pretty much thought everybody knew that but I guess I should of made that clear in my post) I was not sure if his car was an auto or stick which is why I mentioned he could spray lower than 3500rpm. If you have an auto most people want to leave the line on the spray and most people are not going to have 3500+ stalls in their daily car. If it is a stick then you would leave the line at a higher RPM any way, assuming you would be running drag radial or slicks that is, and the point is mute.

I would buy a used SCT X2/X3 and get an email or dyno tune from DS.
