C&L Cold Air intake and mass air meter, 10lb Pulley, Kenne Bell Boost A Pump, Hurst Shifter, Mac Prochamber, 60# injectors, sct tuner
The car only made 450hp/437tq
I want more than 10psi boost, so next mods are probably going to include a built block when the money get right.
My best time was run on a slipping clutch. the clutch isn't worn out, but it can't hold at the RPM's that I launch at. I'm currently launching at 5300rmps but i want to be launching off or redline. I don't know that much about clutches, so if any of you guys have any suggestions, let me hear them. If I can get a good clutch in before the track opens again next year, I'm hoping to be a little deeper into the 9's.

If you are wanting to buy another clutch i would go with a spec stage 3+. They are pretty awsome. It should go mid 9's with a good clutch. Maybe faster depending on how bad it was slipping

You know I'm a fan of the Spec Stage 3 and yeah you might wanna upgrade to the plus. Americanmuscle.com is where I got it, and I don't know what the price of the Stage 2 is now, but the guy gave me the Stage 3 for the Stage 2 price. Just ask. The Stage 3+ is probably the highest stage clutch you can get with it still being somewhat streetable...

I use the centerforce dfx, but ram, fidanza, spec all of them are good clutches. if you're gonna put a clutch in, while you got it apart you should go ahead and pur an aluminum flywheel in as wheel.

i've had a couple of shops tell me to stay away from the aluminum flywheel because of how hard i launch on it. they told me that its a higher chance of spinning the flywheel and tearing it up. I'm launching pretty hard now (5,3000) and can get a couple of good launches from it at the track before it gets hot and starts slipping. At that RPM, it still bogs pretty bad when it leaves the line, so I'm hoping to leave at higher RPM's with a better clutch. Thats why i'm worrying about an aluminum warping or breaking on me. What do you guys think? Does any of that sound possible? i'm hoping to upgrade to a one piece drive shaft when I get the new clutch too. I don't know if any of you guys have seen the set up of the two piece thats in these cars stock, but they look weak as hell with that cheezy CV joint in the middle of it. I'm surprised its lasted as long as it has with the abuse I give it.

you mentioned streetable, which is exactly why I haven't bought a clutch yet. I'm scared that I will buy one that I can't drive on the streets. I know that I have to sacrifice some streetability for a good clutch, but I just don't want one that is strictly engadge, disengadge, with no in between. Evan, I need to jump in your seat to see what the spec feels like.

Oh sorry I was talking about the 99 I had. I'm more than likely getting a Spec 3+ for this car when the stocker disintegrates. And hopefully that won't be in Plumerville again lol....
But the Stage 3 was definitely streetable but it took a little work to get used to it. I wouldn't go past that though. I think the Stage 3+ is rated near 700 ft/lbs. but don't hold me to that.

I would talk to Dynospeed or LethalPerformance....they have some fo the fastest street cars in the country. The S197's have a hydralic clutch...so the tough presser plate isnt a porb. like it is with every other stang known to man. Also Findinza makes a light weight steel flywheel.

the friction surface is steel on the flywheels, so you dont have to worry about it warping under heat. the outer part is aluminum, and plus aluminum disepates heat more so its not going to warp. I am puting a ram aluminum flywheel behind my supercharged 5.4.
also your streetbilty will not change with a good stage 3 clutch. and i dont see how the 2 peice drive shaft hasnt broke already, those things are crap, there has been guys break them in almost stock cars with sticky tires, you been lucky.

When I talk about "good streetability" with regards to a clutch, it's the ability to "ride" it on hills and such, take off in 1st without much effort, and the ease of disengaging it between shifts. There is definitely a huge difference in a stock Cobra clutch and a Spec Stage 3 clutch. I don't have much experience with many clutches, but I do know that there's a noticeable difference in "streetability" when making a major upgrade to a sturdier clutch disk, but we may have two different ways of seeing it...

i can't believe it either. I never realized how weak they were. Never heard anybody mention it until one day, I saw one laying in the floor of a dyno shop in Kansas City, Ks. I asked they guy what it was out of and he said an 06 mustang. I have never been under my car, so I didn't know what they look like. lol. Needless to say, I will be careful until I get a new one.
As for the clutch, I appreciate all the info you guys have. Hopefully, I will be getting one soon. Then comes the task of putting it in.
