Snatched it off eBay for a little under $400. I ordered the wiring harness to adapt it to the Shaker 500 system, as well as the dash kit. I've never delved into anything like this, so would you guys recommend taking it to a shop and have them put it all in? Or, even better, do any of you guys feel comfortable enough doing it for some extra cash?

Wiring up a head unit is pretty simple, It's not something I would pay someone to do honestly. You can probably find some write-ups about how to do it too.

I looked for some writeups, all I found was information on the AVIC-D3, which I would assume would be a similar, if not identical, install. The only stuff I found on the D1 was really cryptic, dead links.

I'm not familiar with the newer Stang's, but from my experience it isn't bad at all. It's something that if you spend just a little time learning how to do it'll all go smoothly. I've done a couple, I'm sure we could all help you out if you decide to tackle it yourself.

I have the AVH-P4200DVD installed. Fairly easy. The only thing is the Acc(I think) connection doesnt work from the wiring harness. Also, I dont think the illumination works from the harness. The ACC you must get from the fuse box in side the cab on the passenger side.

Good advice jack. Yeah a headunit is simple to install especially if you got the wiring kit. The colors are the same on the kit and on the head unit so it's just a matter of matching up wires and butting them together. Just be sure to use correct connectors or to solder and use heatsrink. Don't just twist together and use tape. Haha
