-Driver's side door skin and quarter panel
-Several more cans of flat black duplicolor paint
-Mufflers (....maybe) ;]
And if the funds are there, I'd like some smoked headlights, new sway bars, a shock tower brace, lowering springs and lower control arms. ;]
That's just the basic list. I've got a whole other list of engine mods. Figured I'd spend this year on exterior/suspension.

I wouldnt waste money on meth injection. I have a buddy who has a grandnational and we put the methanol on his car and have had alot of problems, including a fire that luckily didnt damage anything. Just from the experince of it on his car, I will never consider using it on my car. If you do get it I hope you have better luck, but if I spray anything through my blower its gonna be nitrous.

01-11-2009, 08:24 PM
I bought the XE274H cams which are the biggest cams in the NON-PI family, 230/236 @ .500 lift and (blower friendly) 114 LSA. Also with the .500 lift it is ok to stay with the stock valve springs. These cams are about the biggest you can go without have to cut valve releifs in the pistons. I am going to do the install but will have it tuned afterward.

Man... take it from experince, you want to put valve springs in! I had the XE270 cams in my car and the stock valve springs were absolutley no good for it, and that was with a stage2 and your going with a stage 3... If you try to cut corners it will cost you more in the long run. buy a set of springs for $200 or later buy springs, valves, locks, guides and possibly pistons.

Ok change. My mods have now changed. I'm looking for any mods that might make this overpriced, obese chunk of garbage in my yard to actually start and drive again.

01-15-2009, 12:28 PM
will do, i'm ordering my gears, cai, and underdrive pulleys with my tax money and getting my cam gears and valve springs together for the install and putting the new intake manifold on, then going to trailer the old girl down to california for the dyno tune that I want. Going to try out GTR high performance for the tune

Man here's the deal.....1999 and up stock cams were 192/184 with .535 and .505 lift. The EX270 are .550 so I see the need to change the springs. The EX274H's are not. Comp Cams actually don't have "stages" but if they did the EX274h's would be equivalent to a stage 3, non-PI that is. The non-PI cams have lower lift. The EX270 is a PI cam and would therefore be equivalent to a stage 5 because they offer 3 cams with .500 lift then you step into the PI cams that are .550 lift. My question is why change the springs if the cam is not even going to exceed the stock cams lift?
Joey5.4
01-15-2009, 10:30 PM
ok, I did over look where you said the cams you orderd are non PI cams. I dont know anything about your car, but if it has many miles on it I'd still put some springs in while you have it all down, the biggest deal with changing the cams is taking everything apart to get to them and it would be nothing to throw a set in while it is down.

Why the non pi cams in a pi car?
Jimmy
01-16-2009, 10:57 AM
yeah torchd it is a long way to drive to get a tune, but i keep hearing mixed feelings about the shops in the area, and they are also doing abunch of work on the car while they have, they are the ones the custom grind the cams that I got and they are going to be building the bottom end and everything else to match up. Plus I got some family there that I will be able to see and all that good stuff
horspwr
01-16-2009, 11:19 PM
Why the non pi cams in a pi car?
I chose them because of the low lift (.500) which adds more low end torque vs. the PI cam with .550 lift. Also the LSA (114) on the non-PI cams is not quite as aggressive as a PI cam (110-113).

My plans are to save as much as possible and keep the car running. Nothing special, I've finally got my car where I want it. I'm satisfied with the looks, and I have plenty of power. I'm working on the driver mod, as this is my first "fast" or "sports" car. I've gotta learn the car. I'm still at a 2.1 60ft time at the track running 11.4 (1000ft). I should be closer to 11.0, all I need is some practice. I've got a little something I'm hoping I'll have done by the 31st, not positive if it'll be available that soon though.

I just got 2 new Mickey Thompson E.T. Street drag radials and 2 new weld wheels. Also upgraded my Holley 650cfm to a 750cfm with a Proform mainbody kit for my notch back.
Future mod's include switching my 90GT from EFI to a carb set up with a Mighty Demon 750 carb, parker funnel web intake, MSD 6al, MSD pro billet distributor.
After I recover from all of that and sell all of my EFI goodies a nitrous kit for the notch back.

My plans may have changed over the weekend. All I have to left is to get my rods and pistons for the 5.4, but my buddy has a 347 in his 89 GT and the block froze and busted. We was talking about taking his eagle crank and rods, buying a boss block, and having it bored 125 over to accept 350 chevy pistons and making a 363 and putting his Art Carr C4 in my car. So if we decide to do that I may have abunch of 5.4 stuff come up for sale before long.

What route are you planning?
2" drop spindles from Racecraft = $500
1" drop, j-shaped LCA for rear = $275
double adjustable shocks/struts = $550(ish)
new (stiffer) sway bars front/back = $200+
And then, I'm gonna cut my stock springs to see how I like that. If I don't it'll be another $150+ to get a set of progressive lowering springs.
So, at least $1525, but as much as $1675 to get the car low w/o losing all ride comfort.
All b/c I hate sideskirts and spoilers on SN95 mustangs.

yea I wouldnt waste money on all that stuff if you are goin for comfort and you plan on cutting springs cause when you cut the springs its gonna ride like a log wagon and be as low as you want it by doing that.

04-24-2009, 11:26 AM
Ok,
This is the math that I've done. On a 25.5" tire, my fender lip is 28" (from the ground, of course) and the lowest parts under my car (cats and mufflers) have 5" of clearance. To find out the distance from the ground to the center of the wheel (hereafter referred to as the hub) I divide 25.5" by 2 and I get 12.75". That plus 2.5" (28"-25.5"=2.5") gives me 15.25" from the hub to the lip.
When I put the 2" drop spindles up front, that shortens the 15.25" to 13.25". I intend to mount a <24" tire on the front of the car, so that means I'll have 12" from ground-hub. 12"+13.25"=25.25" will be the new distance from the ground to the lip. Subtract 25.25" (lip height, remember?) from 28" (the original lip height) and you get 2.75 of drop. Subtract that figure from the original 5" clearance (under the car) and I maintain 2.25" of ground clearance. Now, if I get o/r X pipe and slim profile muffs, then I might gain back .5" of ground clearance to bring my total to 2.75 inches. That's tight, but I think it'd still be streetable. On top of the tire, I've got 1.25" from top-of-tire to fender lip. I'm going w/ a 195/45R17 on a 6" wide wheel (up front) so my treadwith is just 7". This should give me good clearance inside the fender, eh? Out back I'm doing 315s on a 17x10 wheel, so clearance for >2" of drop should be fine there, too.
I have to get this low since I'm going wingless/skirtless! <2" drop looks like @$$ w/o skirts (IMO).
So I get LOW, have clearance and comfort. Of course, I dunno how the suspension travel's gonna work -that's why I'm getting the adjustable shocks/struts.
