So i Just found out that i dont have abs. Always figured it didnt but i finally broke down and tried looking for it. Every time i go down on the brakes hard, the tires just lock up. Anyone who was at the deli knows what im talking about. I about had a mishap in the parking lot. :D So my question is: Would bigger brakes make this better or worse?

You should have ABS, I thought they've been standard for quite a while. If they're locking up fully they may be malfunctioning.

+1, these cars have abs all the way around standard. the module may be messing up, the module is located right front. i would have it checked out. as far as the question about the brake kit, tha answer is both. it will stop better of course, but it will take less pedal to make them lock.

Agreed, should be there, open the hood, and look down in front of the motor on the passengerside frame rail near the rad,you should see a aluminum like block with a bunch of brake lines coming out of it.
And no matter what size of brakes you have,it will always lock up if the ABS isn't working properly.

I know where to look. The car was ordered without taction control cus the guy who originally bought it didnt drive it on the street so chances are he ordered it without abs. I have no wires running to the brakes either, so no sensors. Thanks for the answers. I guess ill just have to stick to down shifting and braking for hard braking.

If you can contact the previous owner I would ask him about that. I thought 99 or 2000 was the last year you could get them without traction control and either way you couldn't get it without ABS. My 99 didn't have traction control but still had ABS. Is it possible they modified these? Just a thought.

I had an 04 model that didnt have Traction Control on it. The 2nd day i had the car i hit a deer in it, it seems like when i slammed on the brakes they just locked up cause the front tires had a flat spot on them where the car just slid with the brakes locked up. It didnt throw any ABS lights so i dunno

Interesting, maybe it was an option, but I thought there were laws against not having the ABS, but I'm by no means an expert. I know my ABS worked on mine with no traction control though, I stood on them all the time when I use to auto-x it.

Did a little googling and found this and thought it was interesting:

552 ABS with Traction Control - $730
Four-wheel ABS; Electronic traction control via ABS & engine management

It was a $730 option for 04 but standard on 01-03. Traction control was an option on 99 and 00 but it didn't mention the ABS. I would assume it was standard on those as it didn't show as an option but I know mine had it without the traction control.
