I guess depending on how old you are, some may think that 'Trans Am' was a car produced by Pontiac, but it was actually a race series that was very popular in the late 60's, early '70s among automobile manufactures like Ford, Mercury, Chevy, Dodge, Plymouth, AMC, and Pontiac, before 'Trans Am' the car even existed.

This is a slide show I put together showing some of these great factory-sponsored racers. Most of the photos are from modern times, but most of the Mustangs in these photos are the actual Trans Am Mustangs that were run on the tracks in the '60/'70s. Ford took the SCCA Trans Am manufacturer's title in 1967 and again in 1970, before Ford pulled all factory support from this sport at the end of the '70 season.
