I have a friend with a 2002 F-150 4x4 5.4L who's transmission went out on him today, metal shavings all in the pan. Any of you know a good place or how much they go for? He didn't know if his has the 4r70w or the 4r100. He was quoted $3000 for a new one, $2000 for a used one with 120K miles on it, or $1750 for rebuilt. All of those prices included labor. I don't have much experience with the trucks so I wasn't too much help but I know 13 years ago when I had my Ranger transmission replaced it cost around $1500. The rebuilt price isn't too far off from that so I'm assuming that's about right but thought I'd ask just in case. What do you guys think? Thanks for any help or suggestions I can go back to him with.

I had a 90 GMC Sierra 1500 that the tranny went out on. I not only had it rebuilt, I had it "built" because the truck was lifted and rolling on 35's. I got it done for right at $1000. This was probably 3 years ago. No clue on the F-150, but it seems a little high based on my experience (brother had a 87 that needed a rebuild and it was about $1k as well).

Quickshift(Caleb Emberson) can help. He isn't able to get on here much but he actually owns a transmission shop. It's called quality Transmission in Searcy. You might be able to reach him if you click on his username then email him? He is a mechanical genious!

Thanks guys, I'll shoot Caleb an email.

He actually doesn't have it set up to send an email but I shot him a PM. Hopefully he has his email alert set up.

Robert is the one who rebuilt the trans in both my truck and my brothers. On my brothers, he had to rebuild it like 5 different times by Robert in the few years he owned the truck. I don't know what the deal was, but you couldn't keep a trans in it. I'm not gonna blame it on Robert. It was a 87 with 6 inches of lift and 33's, running on stock gearing. I think it was just too much stress. On my truck, he did awesome work. He put in a shift kit that really helped me pull my 35's. I was pleased with the work, and as mentioned above prices were around $1k which seem reasonable.
