Well my son run my 96 Cobra out of oil and gaulded up a cam  . So far with a compression test the right bank (pass side) is good. The most compression on the left side was 30 psi. When I got the left valve cover off the intake cam timing chain was broke because the intake cam was seized up in the head. I am in the process of pulling the front cover and checking the cam bores to see if the head will have to be replaced.

OH that sucks!!!! Man are you gonna strip the head off? Because most of the 4.6's I've seen break a chain............well the valves unfortunately happen to be pretty darn close to the pistons.

I would bet there is a valve right on top of one of those pistons. I've never seen one that would mess up a cam and not drop a valve.

yes, i have been pretty upset with my son, but here has been out there helping with the tear down. I might have gotten lucky, I hone the cam journal in the head, emery clothed the cam journal and none of the valves appear to be bent. I'm gonna perform a clylinder leak down test today when I get off work.

Well, my luck went south! The intake valves are bent on #7 cylinder. I done a leak down test and air is coming out of #7 intake ports. Time to pull the motor.

Man that sucks. Might as well add some cams, ported heads and long tubes while it's out!

Well it's torn down. Come to find out there was only carbon under #7 intake valves that was causing them to leak. Oh well the engine had 150,000 miles on it. I am not going to go to wild with it. The plan is forged flat tops (10.5:1 compression) port and polish heads, intake and throttle body. I will probably reuse the stock cams. I am shooting for about 350hp nothing to wild, thats what my foxes are for.

I love the 96-98 cobras. It should run pretty good with ported heads and raised compression.

I still need to replace the left head from where the cam gaulded and froze up. If anyone has one let me know.

U Pull It in Jacksonville/Cabot has 2 Lincoln Continentals with that motor. They want less than a hundred bucks for each head. I think they are exactly the same. They are asking 275 for the complete engine, but the block is different cause they are front wheel drive.

Time for an update. The engine is back together and sitting in the car. I decided to just do a stock rebuild, Keith Craft honed the block and decked the heads (since one head came from a salvage yard). I ported and polished the heads, intake and imrc's. Reground all of the valves and seats (thats a job on 32 valves). This job has taken a little longer than i wanted it to, but everything has been massaged and assembled to my liking. I'll have her runnin this weekend.

That's great! I bet it'll feel like a new car with all the extra work you've done.
