So last night at walmart I was getting a few things and this older man, probably in his 70's came up to me and asked me if I worked on mustangs. I'm guessing he asked this because of the mustang shirt I had on. Long story short he is trying to get rid of a 67 candy apple red gt. His son I guess has left it sitting in his barn for a little over 28 years, it dosnt start. And hasnt been driven since his soon parked it there all those years ago. It's all original with the 390ci V8 still in there. He said he hasnt put it up for sale yet because he has to move alot of stuff out of the way to get it out and take some pictures of it. This is the best part, when I asked him what he wanted for it he told me he would take around 2 grand if it were to go to a good home. I gave him my number and told him to call me when he gets ready and I will come take a look at it. Joelle approved the transaction if it were to take place (prolly because it will more then likely be her's once I get it running). Soooooo,....if the man calls me and the car is what he said it is looks like I'll be adding a 67 mustang to the stable.

Do you know if it is a coupe or fastback? You also mentioned he said it was a "GT". There are two variants of this: If it's a "GT", then it is a manual 4-speed car [heavy-duty Ford Top-Loader]. If it is a "GTA", then it will have a C-6 automatic 3-speed transmission.
When you go to look at the '67, open the hood and look on top of the left front inner fender apron, toward the front of the panel. You will find the VIN [Vehicle Identification Number] stamped into the top of the panel. The 5th digit over from the left will be the code for the engine that came in the car from the factory. Example: 7F02S122223
"7" will be the year model --1967.
"F" is the assembly plant code for Dearborn. ["R" would be the San Jose assembly plant, "T" would be the Metuchen, New Jersy assembly plant].
"02" would be the body style --this code is for a fastback. ["01" would be for a coupe].
"S" is the code for a 4-barrel carbed 390 GT cu. in. engine. ["Y" would be the engine code for a 390 with a 2-V [venturi] carburetor. "X" would be the code for a 2-V 390 but designed for premium fuel].
The remaining digits are the consecutive unit production numbers.
If it is a GT/GTA, look on the backside of the rear end in the center of the housing. If there is a "bulge" on the back of the rear end housing, just left of center, then it has the desirable 9-inch rear end. --like this:

If it's a fastback, that's a steal of a deal for the money. Even if it's a coupe, that's still a very good price too!

he told me it was a 3 speed auto. Thanks for all the good info here bro, it will be usefull if I go look at it. I'll take some pics when I go, maybe you can give me a more informed opinion. I know a little, but not nearly as much as you do about these early model stangs.
