So my transmission is like a practically brand new T5z the jagoff that put it in ran it low on fluid the first day it was in.. thus and there forth reducing its life span dramaticly.. ooooh. like till about right now.. Second gear grinds, it doesnt wanna go into third easily.. I even tried running synchro mesh in it! Still, to no avail .. I know its low on fluid again because it leaks.. haah So has anyone ever re built one before? is it hard? I have the re build manual on my computer, and I'm going to call hanlon motorsports for the re build kit.. Any advise from anyone?

I rebuilt one years ago, it is not that hard, but you will need someone that would know all the little tricks to putting it back together.

Good luck!!!

I would talk to Caleb ermerson at EAST transmissions. He is the man when it comes to transmissions.

i'd really like to do it myself.. I'm hoping that one of my buddies will be able to just kinda help me out with it though. I'm fairly competant at turning wrench.. It'll take me all day i'm sure because i like to take my time and be thorough with what I do.. What i'd rather do is buy a working T-5.. swap em.. and re build/ beef up mine some before shoving it back in.

I rebuilt the t5 in my 90GT, if you have a manual the right tools it is not bad. Is the clutch adjusted right? I had an issue with the clutch quadrant not adjusting tight engough.

Oh yeah... everythign is fine as far as that goes.. The bearings and stuff i think are cooked... due to the fact that it whurrrs in second and third.. quiets up a bit in 4th.. Second is the only gear it grinds into.. This sucks.. But oh well.. its my stang!! I seriously do love the hell out of this car though.. And being that they have been around for so long, parts are affordable.. and there is plenty of folks with knowledge on them..

the Syncronizer kit is fairly inexpensive, but if it is whining in some gear then that means some of the gears are probably burnt up and the gears can get expensive. If you need any help with it let me know.

Why buy a T5???? Why not just go with a 3550 or something. If your going to spend the money u might as well buy a transmission that is going to hold up to some serious power.

I'd probably go t-56 if i could.. ITs just a matter that my stang is my DD.. And I don't have a few grand to throw at this problem at the moment.. Plus I don't plan on kickin any serious power out of this car for a few years.. There is alot of other things I need to do to it first

You can rebuild that T-5 yourself for $100 to $600 depending what all is burnt up. As far a strength, my T-5 is holding up good behind 425hp.

My fox had a lot less than that and I burned up the factory t5, a rebuilt one from a local shop (not in business anymore) 2x and finally I got a rebuilt one from Astro Performance for like $800 (I think, that was 3yrs ago).

The 3550 is a good idea. I would also consider a G Force with the upgraded case. They are one rock sold tranny
