I dont know much about the tuning of the fox body cars, my cousin has a 86 GT 5spd converted to mass air, 306ci, Brodix heads,E or B 303 cam and he needs some tunning, I was wondering what guys with stock style fuel injection are doing with these cars. Can he just call super chips and tell them what he has and the send him a chip, or can someo one like dynospeed tune on something this old?

What we did on a buddy of mines car is put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and put a furl pressure gauge on it and set the fuel pressure, then set the throttle position sensor at .9 and then locked out his timing and it was good to go.

It can still be tunned by someone. I am not sure if DynoSpeed can do it but I would think so. I know JMS Chip & Performance can. Also superchips should be able to make something as well.

I just went through this with my 90 GT, I built a 347 with Roush heads,x303 cam, 30lb injectors and never could get it to run right. It needed to be dyno tuned, but I decided to use that money to buy a intake and carb. James at East end towing does tuning for the EEC IV.

that is exactly what his ad is trying to get him to is put a carb on it. The car runs good, but they also have a 64 Falcon with 306 and original trick flow heads with a mild hydraulic cam that will make an *** out of their Fuel injected car and the mustang has way more motor in it.
Thanks for the input everyone!

The carb swap is not bad to do, I even used the in tank fuel pump.

Yea we have done a car swap on my other cousins 89 with 347. This one here is really wanting to keep it f.i., and not spend alot of money something like FAST. I talked to Sniper for him today, and believe he is gonna order the software and chip burner so he we can burn the chips, then no matter what he does from here on out, we can tune it and not have to keep sending it back and forth.

IM a big fan of the SCT stuff. I have a 87 lx hatch with a 306 with lots of goddies and some spray. The SCT chip with some dyno tuning really picked my up on the HP and got my air fuel ratio where it needed to be. Plus with the SCT stuff you can turn of the egr and O2 sensors if need be.

Usually as long as its NA and drastic changes havent been made such as switching over to forced induction etc... you should be able to get by with timing/fuel pressure adjustments. But iif you want more out of it my opinion would be to go with a SCT chip. I have been flashing my own chips with their pro racer package for about the last year and i think it works very well! I hear JMS does good mail order tunes for the EEC-IV setups. Another person you might get in touch with is John Lund, although im not positive that he is real keen on the foxbody tuning as much as the newer OBD II mustangs.
